A new Swiss high-tech neighbour in Boston!
Great news! The e-security firm Wisekey announced that it will open an R&D office in Boston in the beginning of 2005. Is it a move to position the firm to get US VC? They have signed a key agreement with Microsoft and getting close to their US customers is definitely a smart move. It'll be interesting to see if they make use of the Swiss quality label to promote their security activities.
With a large financial center, Boston is certainly a key city to implement security solutions, but the field is also getting crowded here. On the research side, MIT has a few groups active in cryprography - for example this one.
